Mikuni Matsuri is the festival succeeded in Mikuni Cho,Fukui since the beginning of Edo Era. It's also known as one of the three biggest festivals in Hokuriku area. It is held on May 18,19 and 20 every year. Mikuni used to be a port town which prospered as a outport of the land tax from the manors since Nara Era. After the medieval Ages Mikuni changed the business target to the trade of the marine transportation in the Japan Sea by 'Kitamae-bune' trading boats connecting Hokkaido and Osaka.
You could imagine the prosperity of the wealthy shipping merchants by viewing the huge festival cars with the doll worriors on it. The climax will be the Junko parade of the portable shrine. Around the center of Mikuni Town parade several festival cars with over 6 meter-tall doll worriors on it. A lot of tourists enjoy viewing them on May 19th. 20 minutes' drive from Auberge Fujii Fermier.
